One day trip to Srirangapatna

Srirangapatna temple, Sriranganathaswamy templePlace: Srirangapatna
Distance: 230 km from Bangalore

A place is mainly known for Tippu sultan's Royalty and Innovations during his period. Even though everything was ruined due to the negligence of the government. I was able to imagine how and Why Tippu was actually called Tippu Sultan.

when Trip was planned there were 6 members but on the day of the trip only 1 agreed to come, so instead of canceling the trip I and my Colleague decided to go as we were stressed out with the busy work schedule, we also wanted some peace of mind. we left at 5.00 AM from Yeshwanthpur via Mysore road. It was chilling cold, after 65-70 KMs we took a tea break after which the drive was non stop till we reached Srirangapatna. We reached around 7.45 Am, firstly we visited the famous temple of Srirangapatna i.e Sri Ranganathaswamy temple

The Hoysala king Vishnuvardhana granted the village of Srirangapatna to the Vaishnava saint Ramanujacharya as a place of learning. The Kingdom of Vijayanagar and Wadeyar have made their contributions to the temple. After taking the blessings of Lord Ranganathaswamy, we had our breakfast in a hotel which was nearby.

Then we moved to Commemorative Obelisk, which was just 1 KM from Ranganathaswamy temple this was erected by the government of Mysore in memory of English soldiers died during the siege of srirangapatna.

Then we visited Colonel Bailey's Dungeon, this was the place where British officers were prisoned. A dungeon is named after British prisoner colonel bailey who died in this dungeon in 1780.

We then moved to a palace, which was fully ruined except its name, Lal Mahal palace. This was a double story ornate palace built in 1791 and was used by Tippu Sultan as his summer retreat. Col Wellesley destroyed Lal Mahal after the siege of Srirangaptna.

Then we moved to masjid which was built during the regime of  Tippu in the year 1786. Tourists are not allowed inside the prayer hall.

The next worthy place we visited was Tippu's Summer Palace. It was Hyder Ali Khan who started constructing this palace in the year 1778. However, the construction was completed by his son Tipu Sultan in the year of 1784 AD. This palace, surrounded by a vast spread of garden. The front of the palace has huge wooden pillars with a base of stones. It has arches and brackets colorfully painted in further highlight the carvings done on them.

The palace has various items on display which are associated with Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali. For example, Clothes of Tipu Sultan, his crown, a Silver vessel which belonged to Hyder Ali, war weapons, coins, etc. have been showcased here.

There is also a place where Tippu's body was found and a Gumbaz nearby which was built by Tipu Sultan for housing the tombs of his father Hyder Ali and himself.

We had completed visiting all the places as planned, it was almost around 12.00 pm as we had finished visiting all the places we decided to visit Mysore palace which was 20km away. I didn't take any pictures of Mysore palace because it's a place which has to be visited by everyone and enjoy the royalty and richness of Mysore kingdom personally. We left Mysore at 2.30pm via Mysore road back to Bangalore, we had our lunch at hotel  Fish land. We reached Bangalore at around 6.00 pm.

The Overall rating of Trip was average because there was nothing much so impressive apart from Tippu's Summer Palace and Mysore Palace.
